About Spegla

Spegla is a desktop app that lets a Mac use a spare computer as a second screen, on the same network or across networks. It is made by Klura AB, a company in Stockholm, Sweden.

What Spegla does

  • A Mac shows its screen on another Mac or a Windows PC, or uses that computer as an extra display.
  • You start a session on the Mac: pick one of the devices signed in to your account and it accepts, or show a short code and enter it on the other computer.
  • It works on your local network, and across networks when they allow a direct connection.

How it connects

Your devices connect to each other directly, over QUIC, and the picture travels between them encrypted. The Mac encodes its screen in hardware and sends it in small pieces, so a lost piece is repaired quickly instead of freezing the picture. Our servers help your devices find each other and show which of them are online; they don't receive your screen.

Where it stands

Spegla is pre-release software, in active development. Next come a relay for networks that block a direct connection, remote control, moving files, and apps for iPad, Android tablets and phones. Each is part of the service only once it is released.

What it costs

Spegla is free while it is pre-release. On your local network it stays free, without a limit on time. Paid plans for connecting outside your network come later, and you see their prices before you buy anything.

Your privacy

Your screen stays between your devices. We keep only what we need to run your account and connect your devices, and our analytics carry no identifier. The privacy policy lists everything we collect, why, and for how long.
